Fallbarrow Favourite

Cooking

Early season cooker, rediscovered in Mr. Gibson’s orchard at Tarnside near Crosthwaite. Name implies a connection with Fallbarrow Park at Bowness. First recorded in 1936 and exhibited from Westmorland in 1946 but is probably much older. It is a flattened, medium sized, yellow-green apple with a warm amber flush. Flavour is rich and mellow with a slightly sweetish tang. It falls almost to a purée when cooked.
